It is almost the New Year, what are your resolutions for the year. Mine is to be more diligent about posting to this blog (sorry ). In reality though, I have not been doing much grocery shopping. It was nice not to “have” to go to the store (only for essentials like milk ans eggs). I was able to save almost 40% on my Christmas dinner grocery visit. So, this week I made a couple of stops and would like to share some of the great deals I found this week.

TARGET

I decided to shop Target because they have GREAT after Christmas sales. If you did not already know, Target also has a toy clearance in January. Be on the look out for toys prices 30-75% off their original price. Unfortunately, my Target still had Christmas items at 50% off and the toys were only 30%, I will try again later this week. All in all I did pretty well. I spent 34.59 oop for $55.39 in merchandise. Here is what I bought:

2 Method (Christmas) Hand Soaps – marked down to $2.54 – used 2-$2 off Q’s

Cascade 2 in 1 tabs – used $1/1 Q

Birthday Gift (no Q’s)

Princess and the Frog Book (no Q’s, but made little girl VERY happy)

2 – Glad Force Flex Garbage Bags – on sale for $5.99 – used 2 $1/1 and 2 Target $1/1

Dog Shampoo (no Q’s)

6 – Reach Dental Floss – 6 – $1/1 Q’s

2 – Rolaids 3 Packs – $2.64/ea – used 2-$2/1 Q’s

Trio Toy – on clearance for $2.64 from $4.99

Plus, Target will give you $0.05 for each reusable bag you use at checkout. I know it is not much, but it is something!

CVS

This was probably one of my favorite shops this week! I brought my checkout total down from $45.45 to $3.68!!! I LOVE when that happens. So your next question is HOW DID YOU DO THAT? Well, this week CVS is giving away $5 ECB for the Bayer Glucose system, so that is a big part, plus I used the $5 off $30. Not only did I only pay $3.68 oop, I took home $9.00 to use on other items….so I MADE money on the deal! Here is what I got:

1 – Bayer Blood Glucose Monitoring System – used $30/1 Q (adjusted to $14.99)

2 – Pantene Shampoos – used 1 $3/2 Q

3 – Dawn Dish Liquid – used 3 – $1/1 Q’s (FREE ITEM)

1 Gallon McArthur Milk

1 – Colgate Toothpaste – used $1/1 Q (FREE ITEM after ECB)

1 – 3 Pack Ivory Soap – used $1/1 Q – from 12/27 P&G insert (FREE ITEM)

I also had $1 ecb that I used on the purchase in addition to the $5/$30 (from using my green bag tag). All in all, $3.68 for the above is A OK in my book, since milk usually costs just that.

WINN DIXIE

I normally do not shop Winn Dixie – I only have time for so many stores, but I could not pass this one up (plus had some free time). Winn Dixie is running a meal deal promotion. If you purchase two Tombstone pizzas for $11.58, you get 4 other items for free. So, I paid $11.58 for $25.25 in groceries. Here is the deal:

2 Tombstome pizzas

FREE ITEMS:

1- 2 Liter Coke Product

1 – Winn Dixie Brand Garlic Bread

1 – Bryers Ice Cream

1 – Farmrich Mozzerella Sticks

Pretty cool!

PUBLIX

Since I had been out of town, I was not able to cash in on the Publix deals. I went today to grab a few things and to cash in on my $5/$50 Q before it expired tomorrow. BE ON THE LOOK OUT – Publix always has calendars at the beginning of the year (they are free) and they have GREAT coupons in them. Be sure to grab a calendar!

At Publix, I spent $25.33 oop for $89.46 in groceries. Here is what I bought:

4 – Scotch Mailing Envelopes – used 4- $1/1 Q’s

2.57 LB Bananas – They are $0.39/lb this week!

4 3LB bags of Purina Beneful – used 4 – $2.50/1 Q’s

2 – Wonka Gummy Candies – used 2 – $1/1 Q’s (FREE ITEM)

Scotch Lint Roller Refill – used 1 – $1/1 Q

Scotch Mini-Lint Roller Refill – used 2 – $1/1 Q’s

2 – Scotch Brite Sponges – used 2 $1/1 Q’s

2 – Fusion Snack Mix – used 2 $1/1 Q’s

4 – Glade Fragrance Collection Candles – used 4 – $4/1 Publix Q’s & 4 – $2/1 Q’s (FREE ITEM)

4 – Snuggle Fabric Softner – used 4 – $2/1 Q’s

used $5/$50 order Publix Q

If one of your resolutions is to save money for the coming year, look to your grocery bill. Your grocery bill is the fastest and easiest place to save money. How? Simple, start using coupons and only buying things when they are on sale. By following the advice on this site and others I have listed you will start to see savings in the neighborhood of 50-80%. Even if you save 10-20%, it is still more money in your pocket than before.

Using coupons is not difficult, but takes patience to get started. As we get into the new year, I will post deals, savings and other great ways to save your family money. I routinely save over 50% on my grocery bill and often go weeks without grocery shopping because of all the great deals I have found. I recently added a LARGE pantry to my kitchen to house all the great deals I have found (see previous post). Below is a great thing to know, the coupon insert schedule for the year. I read this on IHEARTSAVINGMONEY.com and thought it you might find it useful (to prevent buying extra papers on the weekends without inserts!).

4 Glade Candle Tins (used $2/2 found in containers)

4 Glade Candle Refills (used 4 Free Item, wyb Candle holders)

4 Boxes of “UP” Wipes (used 4 $1/1 Target Q)

$1 Bin Book

Then, I got a $5 gift card for the Glade Holiday candle purchase, so when I went to CS to price match, I used that to pay down the balance on the movies. In the end I have two moves that cost more than my oop total! YEAH!

Publix

I have SO many groceries that I really have not been grocery shopping lately, but I decide to try to find the Tylenol (rumored to be free – NOT so). I also wanted to cash in on the Real Simple MIR. I spent $6.16 oop for $22.33 in groceries. Here is what I bought:

6 packages of Nestle Tollhouse Refridgerated Cookie Dough

1 Bag Public Pretzels

The mail in rebate will send me $5 back, so I paid for the cookies and make a little money too!

So I thought I might talk about some basics, since more and more of you are getting involved.

1. Don’t bend the rules. Be VERY vigilant about the coupon rules and products. The cashiers and managers will give you TONS more respect and will even go the extra mile. Plus, it only takes a few to ruin it for everyone.

2. If you are only saving 10, 20 or 30% at first – BE HAPPY! You should pat yourself on the back and be happy with your savings. The savings you see on this site or other coupon sites can be misleading. First, we have couponing for a while and have LARGE stockpiles. I only buy what I think are great deals each week. Other than staples like milk, juice and fruit, I could probably go for months without going grocery shopping. Just to show you…look at the picture of my pantry (and that is just dry groceries – I have other stashes)

3. Pick your cashiers and stores wisely. Not all stores and cashiers are coupon friendly (just yesterday I was harrassed by a cashier for using a coupon).

4. DONATE DONATE DONATE. I buy stuff all the time that I can donate. Even if it is not something I would normally use. By watching the ads and clipping coupons, you can often get things for free that others would gladly accept. I love that I can help out by donating food, glucose monitoring kits, personal hygene products and expired coupons (military bases accept up to 4 months after expiration date). So when you are buying, think of who else may be able to benefit from the deals you are reading about.

5. Have fun! I do this to save money, but most of all i REALLY enjoy it. It would not be as much fun if I was not sharing my successes with my friends and giving things away!

I couldn’t resist it…I had to get some more great shopping in today. I said I was just going to do things around the house, but the deals were hard to pass up. Plus my “mop” broke and I desperately needed a new one. So I decided to head out to Target and Publix to grab a couple of things. My total oop today was $47.37 (which included $18.65 for a new Swiffer Mop – since the handle on my old one was done) for a total of $152.65 in groceries and merchandise.

At Publix I spent $24.74 oop, for $99.88 in groceries (a 75% savings). Here is what I got:

PUBLIX

2 Sunday Port St Lucie Papers

1 Sunday Palm Beach Post (can you believe they are $2…)

1 lb Bananas

Rubbermaid “Tupperware” (On sale for $1.91, used the $1/1 printable Q)

2 Mur Glenn Tomato Sauce (Used 2- $1/1 (overage of $0.11, plus used the $4/4 GM Q)

1 Bag Publix Corn

2 – Pillsbury Simply Cookie Dough (used 2- $1.25/1, plus used the $4/4 GM Q)

1 box Hefty garbage Bags (used $1/1)

8 Boxes Uncle Bens Rice (used 4 -$1/2)

1 Publix Gallon OJ

12 Boxes of Cheez-Its (used 6- $1.50/2)

4 Bags Green Giant Vegetables (1- $0.50/1 and 3-$0.40/1, plus the $4/4 GM Q)

In addition to the above coupons, I also used the $5 off $50 from Albertson’s (which is why I bought so many Cheeze-Its). The $4/4 GM coupon actually gave me overage of $2.72 (because I stacked Manufacturer’s coupons with it). I also did two transactions to take advantage of the GM deal twice. I have to say this is a tricky coupon and I did not want to push it, but they were nice and let me do the deal twice. I also checked with Customer Service when I entered the store and she told me ANY product by GM. Once I was checking out the cashier had to call CS on the second order (too many coupons for # of products) and she argued with me that is was for cereal. Eventually the Assistant Store Manager came out, gave it to me and we spoke about the products. In the end, she thanked me for telling her about all the products and how to verify if it is a GM product! I LOVE PUBLIX.

TARGET

I REALLY needed a way to clean my floors…so I decided Target was in the mix today. Target does have a deal if you buy two products (Bounce, Swiffer Mop, Tide, etc) you will get a $5 gift card. I did not need any of the other stuff, so I just stuck to the one item. I also had a NOT so GREAT cashier experience. She tried to tell me that I could not use a Manufacturer Q with a Target Q to make the product free. Instead of arguing with her (there was a TON of people), I went to customer service after I paid. I know (for a fact) that you can use a manufacturer Q and Target Q in the same transaction and get an item for free. I have phoned Guest Services and been told that (i was also emailed their policy- which unfortunately most cashiers have no idea how it works). So you know, you can read the FULL POLICY here. So once I got to Customer Service they had to call the manager and low and behold I found a Manager that knows his stuff!! (FYI – Young Guy at the Tradition Target). He gave me ALL my coupons plus the overage – I was only asking for the items for free! YEAH. So I ended up spending $22.63 oop, for $52.77 in merchandise. Keep in mind that the Swiffer ALONE was $18.65, so all in all I though it was a great purchase. Here is what I got:

1 Swiffer Floor Mop Kit

1 Swiffer Refill (Buy Kit get Free Refill Qt, )

2 packages of Wonka Candy (used 2 – $1/1)

2 Package of Halloween Kraft Marshmallows (clearance for $0.52, used Target Q $1/2) – TOTAL of $0.04

1 Bag of Purina Cat Food (used $2/1 Manufacturer Q + $1/1 Target Q)

4 – GE Smart Energy Light Bulbs (Used $2/1 Target Q + $1/1 Manuf. Q) – this is the one the cashier would not ring

2 Kraft Marshmallows (used $1/2 Target Q)

The light bulbs ended up giving me a total overage of $2.44 – THIS IS VERY UNIQUE for Target. Normally they do not allow overage. Personally, I think he just wanted to get rid of me since my child was making such a scene

Yes, can you believe it? I managed to get in some GREAT shops today while taking my daughter to a few events. I spent $15.50 OOP for $80.68 worth of goodies, a 81% Savings. Here is what I picked up:

12 Cans Progresso Black Beans

3 Boxes of Fruit Loops

3 Boxes of Apple Jacks

4 Febreeze Air Freshners (Holiday Scents)

9 kids socks

1 Kids Mittens

6 Sets of Thank You Cards/Note Cards

4 Packages of Quaker Oats

1 Package of Nail Polish

2 Camisoles

1 refrigerator Note Pad

I also have $5 RR to use at Walgreens for next time. I stopped at Target, Publix (twice) and Walgreens. I did have issues with the $4/4 GM Products at the last Publix and had to ask for the Manager. She approved it, but I still caught LOTS of attitude from the cashier. Funny how one Publix they thought it was great, the next one the Cashier treated me like a thief. Just goes to show, make friends with the cashiers and stick to those cashiers!

There are a TON of deals to work the $4/4 Publix coupon. Go here, to see a list of all General Mills products. All you have to do it buy 4 and make sure they are over 5 oz…and you can use the Q. You can also stack the Publix coupon with manufacturer coupons to make the deal sweeter! Now is the time to stock up!!!!

Today and yesterday I stopped by a couple of stores. In fact, I shopped Target while in Maimi…you can coupon wherever you are! You can also coupon without a lot of time. Most people I have spoke to think it takes HOURS to get the deals. You can have small, short trips that add up. Most of my deals today were small quanities and took VERY little time at the store.

PUBLIX

I really did not need much from the grocery store this week, but I did want to cash in on a few of the deals (literally). I spent $12.16 oop for $43.48 worth of groceries. Here is what I bought:

2 Planters Mix Nuts (BOGO) (used $1/2 Q)

2 Granny Smith Apples (Used $1 on produce)

3 Bananas

3 Ritz Crackerfuls (used BOGO wyb Ritz crackers)

6 Ritz Crackers (BOGO) (used $1/2 Q)

Not only did I snag these deals for 73% Savings…but now I can submit for the Keep Jingle in Your Holidays Rebate…I will get $10 for the stuff I bought. So, when you factor the rebate in, I only spent $2.16 for all the above. Pretty good in my opinion. (Note the nuts are not pictured).

CVS

CVS has not been so great lately…not like the summer when I was raking in the ECBs. This week I had the $5/$25 purchase and I needed TP, so I decided to make it work. The save $5 on $25 purchase can be great cause you can really rake in the deals, especially when you buy a bunch of “free” stuff and use the $5 to pay for an item….such as TP. Some were laughing at me today with my testing kit (that I don’t need), but I will donate it. One of the things I like to do with all this great stuff is give back. Over the summer with all the great back to school deals, CVS was practically giving away the supplies. I went each week and got what I could for free. Just before school started, I donated all of the supplies to the United Way backpack program. I will do the same with the blood sugar kits and some other great stuff. If feels great to be able to give back! I ended up spendng $10.63 OOP for $90.46 worth of goods. Here is what I bought:

12 Roll CVS TP (toliet paper)

Neosporin Lip Health ($2.50 Instant Q, plus $3/1 Manuf. Q)

4 Cambells Tomato Soup (2 $1/2 Q’s)

1 Sonic Spin Brush

Nova Max Kit

I also used a $6.99 ECB I had remaining in addition to the $5/$25 purchase. I ended up with an additional $11.99 in ECB’s, so I ended up making money on the deal!

Toys R Us

This was a fun shop because I don’t normally have such great coupons for this store. Unfortunately I ended up taking my daughter with my so my plan for stashing the items for xmas did not work as planned. Here is what I bought:

1 Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure (used $10/1 Q from here- note you can buy the Blu-Ray/DVD)

1 Tinkerbell Doll (25% off)

2 Small Tinkerbell dolls (BOGO)

1 Fairies Lantern (free with $40 fairy purchase)

I also used a $5/$25 purchase Q. My total oop was $29.62 for $66.76 in merchandise. I think for Toys R Us, that is a GREAT deal (considering the movie regular price is $29.99), plus it was Tinkerbell merchandise!!

Target

I had a TON of fun at Target, I LOVE when they give me stuff for FREE! I shopped Target while I was in Miami, no coupons but the dollar bins were 50% off Green dot items! So I bought a few items, including books, nail kits and socks – always great stocking stuffers and small gifts. Also, if you are not aware Target will price match a competitors ad. THEY ARE GREAT about it. You just bring the ad and they will ring your items up. You have to complete the price match transaction at guest services, but they are really great about it. While at Target, I spent $14.49 OOP for $97.54 worth of groceries and merchandise. Here is what I bought:

3 Kelloggs Apple Jacks (Price Match to CVS ad – 2/$4, plus Target $1/1 Kellogs Q and $1/1 Manuf. Blinkie)

3 Kelloggs Fruit Loops (Price Match to CVS ad – 2/$4, plus Target $1/1 Kellogs Q and $1/1 Manuf. Blinkie)

Renuzit Air Freshner

2 Care Bear Socks

3 Sesame Street Books

2 Pedicure Sets

2 Airwick Ultra Freshmatic – (on Rollback for $5.99 from $13.99, used $6/1 Q)

4 Febreeze Holiday Scents – on sale for $4.99, used $4/1 Q

8 Pk Notecards

2 Sets gift bags (birthday party coming soon!)

Ice Pack

Abbey Cadaby Bucket

2 Foaming Hand Soap

3 AAA Batteries (used 3 $1/1 Q’s)

6 Keebler Cookies (Target Promo – Buy 2 Get 1 Free, plus used 3 $1/1 Target Keebler Q’s, plus 2 $1/1 Manuf Q’s and 2 $1.50/2 Manuf. Q’s)

Overall my savings were $86%. The best part was ringing up the cereal and my total was $0.00!!!! I still hope to shop Walgreens and Wal-mart this week. I will let you know if I find any great deals.
